Quick guide to buying online:

When selecting a go kart, one should first decide on a few important specifications about the vehicle. The first is whether they want gas or electric powered, and the second is whether they want off-road or racing.

Electric vs. Gas-powered

Typically, electric are less expensive than gas-powered. There is generally less maintenance needed on electric than on their gas counterparts. Most of those for kids sold on this site are electric, and are not as fast as those that are gas-powered. Thus, if one desires a vehicle for racing or one for adults or older teenagers they would most likely select one that is gas-powered. Electrics are generally less likely to flip due to the weight of the battery pack, their lower speeds, and their low-profile (the body of the car is lower to the ground). They are preferred for indoor use as the fumes from those that are gas-powered make indoor use less desirable.

Due to their low-profile, an electric is mainly driven on the street, while a gas-powered is used for racing off-road or on the street. Off-roads generally have a roll cage or rolling chassis and are more commonly gas-powered. They will generally have larger wheels and many have room for a passenger. The engine sizes are typically 150cc or 250cc and can reach speeds of up to 50 miles per hour. We offer a selection of dune buggies, which are very common off-road vehicles designed for driving on sand or beaches, and we also have other selections that have a more all-terrain design.

The weight of the individual driving is a very important specification when deciding which type to purchase. Many that are electric with driving speeds between 10-15 miles per hour are designed for kids and generally allow a maximum weight of 150 lbs. For example,  the Razor Ground Force Electric Kart is one of our most popular for kids. It supports up to 140 lbs and goes a max speed of 12 miles per hour. One of our most popular for going off-road is the Go-Ped Gas Powered Full Suspension 4-Wheeled Trail Ripper Quad. It goes up to 30 miles per hour and supports 400 lbs. Some have excellent designs for both on or off-road enjoyment. One example of this is the new 2012 ScooterX 49cc Baja. It goes up to 32 miles per hour and supports up to 250 lbs.
